Tires

I have a 2001 F-150 Supercab Long bed 4x4 XL. What are the biggest tires I can fit on stock (16x7) rims without a lift kit.

Thanks. I put 285/75/16 BFG All Terrains on today. They fit fine with the torsion bars cranked up a little

I've got a 98 4x4 S/C shortbox and have the 17" rims which came with 265/75/17 RT/S tires. Replaced them with more aggressive AT/S 275/75/17 tires and there's still lots of room left. Apparently these are 33.4 inches overall diameter.

A little noisier on the hwy now after breaking them in.

Also the steering is less precise and the front end likes to wander a bit. Got used to it now but kind of ridiculous for 10mm wider tread. Maybe my ball joints are going or they're overinflated. Haven't checked yet.

Otherwise, rain and snow traction is great. No complaints. Drove on black ice and snow/ice last night.

Cost me an arm & a leg though for these things. Had one as an insurance replacment from an accident. The other 3 were $245CAN each plus mounting/balance at Goodyear... $905 total. The disadvantage of 17" rims - not much tire choices. Go to 15" or 16" if you want bigger than 33" and affordable.
