20's on 4x4 ?

I think we all know that no one will do any serious off roading with 20's. They simply aren't made for that. However, why are so may people so closed-minded to think that a 4X4 can only be used for rock-climbing or mudding?
While those activities are fun and enjoyable, there ARE other reasons a person desires a four wheel drive vehicle. One that jumps out at me: Maybe the owner in question is a boat owner. There are a large number of really slick, very steep boat ramps out there. When you're yanking your boat out of the water, you need all available traction. Flipping the switch or pulling the lever to turn the fronts sure is handy. I honestly don't believe that a lifted 4X4 with some big ole 35" mudders is going to vastly outperform another truck 4X4 that's sitting on dubs. Another reason to have 4X4: where I live the county has difficulities removing snow. It's actually downright pathetic. The good thing is that we don't get a lot of snow. With the horrible snow-removal there are times that 4WD is needed - or at least greatly appreciated. While 20's may not be the best tire choice for the situation, they should get the job done.
Here's a question. I would like to know how you can call a guy who has a 4X4 with 20's a poser without knowing his situation? If he uses his 4X4 system only as an aid to help pull a boat up a slippery ramp only a few times a summer - how does that make him a poser? Why would he be a poser, but the guy with a 4" lift and mud tires that goes mudding a few times a year isn't a poser?
To each their own. While I like the lifted trucks, I also like the look of a stock-height Ford that's sporting 20''s. It's a fresh look, and it is not completely worthless as a few people have said otherwise.

Hey honestly 20's on a 4x4 is the new trend..more tire manuf. are coming out w/ more range a/t tires to give people more variety. Oh btw if any of ya'll have heard of pleasures truck and car club (biggest and most succesfull in the nation- htey hosted the slamboree car show) one of their members had 20's on a 4x4 and sold them for 22's so obviously puttin dubs on a 4x4 is not posin its trend-setting.

When everybody's doin' something, it becomes a trend.
Hey, I'm not saying he can't go mudding with 20s, or that he can't pull a boat up a ramp with 20s, or even that he can't drive through deep snow with them. I'm just making the point that the tire market hasn't caught up with those uses, and that the selection will be quite limited. It'll be like using a hammer to drive screws. It can be done, but it's not the ideal tool for the real world.
I don't know about the roads where you live, but here in the Great Lakes they downright stink. With the vast majority of those 20+ tires you are running 4" or less sidewall height. Ride quality will suffer.
So, basically the choice is yours. You lose ride quality, tire selection, winter capability, tire life, and whole lot of money in exchange for visual flare and maybe a slight increase in at-the-limit roadholding.
It's your money.

ALL THE REPLIES IS MUCH APPRECIATED. THE REASON FOR GETTING MY 4X4 WAS FOR THE SNOW. I NEVER TAKE IT OFF ROAD AND WOULD NEVER THINK OF TAKING IT OFF ROAD. THE SNOW DOWN HERE IN THE SOUTH IS VERY LIMITED, BUT WE DO GET A GOOD ONE ONCE A YEAR. MY JOB REQUIRES ME TO BE THERE REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER. THEREFORE THAT WAS MY REASON FOR THE TRUCK. I SEEN THE NEW DODGE 4X4'S WITH THE 20" WHEELS AND THOUGHT THEY LOOKED AWESOME. DON'T WANT A DODGE THO, I LIKE MY FORD. THAT IS WHY I THOUGHT ABOUT THE 20" WHEELS ON THE FORD 4X4. THE DODGE HAS PLENTY OF SIDEWALL WITH THE 60 SERIES TIRES. NOT WANTING TO PUT LOW PROFILE TIRES ON IT. WANTING THE LOOK OF THE DODGE 4X4 ON MY FLARESIDE. DON'T CARE ABOUT OFF ROADING, JUST LIKE THE LOOK OF THE 4X4. MY TRUCK STAYS IN THE GARAGE AND I WOULD NEVER THINK OF TAKING HER MUDDING.
