35's with my 5.4L, new gears or not?

If I put the 35's on my '01 5.4L 4x4, will I loose a lot of power? I am sure that my gas mileage will go to poop, but I was wondering if it will feel real dogish too. Has anyone put 35's (315/75/17) on their 5.4? If so please let me know what the loss of power and gas mileage was like. I think that 33's (305/75/17) would look fine too, so I am trying to decide(I am going to put the PA 3" body lift on at the same time). TAI, Kory.

Question Depends on what gears you have.

I've got 35's on mine and I'm still running the stock 3.55's in it. Don't get me wrong, I did lose some power but it hasn't been so bad that I've had to change the gears yet. I guess the Superchip helps out some too. Hope this helps.

I think you made a type-o there Kory. Never heard of a 305/75 17. If that is correct, (then I apologize) that would still be right at a 35" tire and not a 33". A 305/7016/17 is a 33" and a 315/75 16 is a 35" I know for sure, but the difference between a 305/75 and a 315/75 is very little in width and not much in diameter.

The 5.4 does make a difference. I have 305/70 16's on with my 3.55's now and it's borderline, IMO. I had the same wheels and tires on my '97 with a 4.6 and it needed gears something bad.

I just put 35's on my 4.6L V8 last week, and did notice a small power loss, but not enough to really bother me or justify spending the $500-$600 to re-gear. It's a little sluggish off the line, but again, nothing earth shattering. I'll use that cash to get a new air intake and exhaust instead...

Oops, thanks Galaxy it was 305/70/17.

Thanks for the info on to re-gear or not to re-gear. I was wondering too about gas mileage? I did a search on this site for and a lot of people have said that when they jumped to 35's their gas mileage went the heck. Have any of you noticed this? I am currently happy with my gas mileage. Thanks.

For what its worth, on my 2002 V6, 5 speed, and 3.08's I went with 35's and lost 4 mpg and can only use 4 gears. It is driveable but as soon as I can research best gears and what shop then 4.56's will be going in.
