The brake job is easy! You should take your time though. Have the rotors resurfaced or better yet have them replaced. I know, kind of pricey ($50-$75/each) but you will thank me in the long run.

About the shims, Ford puts them on there pads from the factory for a reason. Don't buy pads or let someone put pads on without them. Can you say squeak, squeak, squeak!

You will also need to flush the brake fluid from the system. Get you a Haynes manual for about $15 and go to town.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, check around. Find a good shop and get a written estimate before any wrench touches your truck!

Good luck.

Question Shims or not?

Do all shops do a brake job and install shims? I talked to one shop and they said that is not the case. They said if they don't install them you will get premature noise. Is this some that should not be assumed in the shop estimate over the phone? How hard is it to do the job at home if rotors are OK?
